On Oct. 30, 1987, he married Mary Elizabeth Eischen in Duluth, Minn. They have five children: Zachary William (April 2, 1988), Moriah Christine (July 27, 1991), Hannah Marie (Sept. 4, 1993), Elizabeth (September 2005) and Avamarie (April 9, 2008). Elizabeth and Avamarie were adopted from China.
Chris graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1981. He has worked as a sportswriter and sports editor at the Mesabi Daily News and the Duluth News Tribune and currently is a sports editor at the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
